My chums and I were travelling through London recently, on a day trip to the City itself.  We were like a bunch of well behaved school children as the coach wound it’s slow and painful way through Islington, Finchley back up towards the venue.  Because the whole of London seems to be dug up for some gas, electricity, or water workings, the route had been changed and not enough thought given to the poor coach drivers affected by the resulting mayhem.  However, with patience of a saint, our driver got us to the Guildhall in time to meet our host and guide.   On this route, from the very outskirts of our home town, we were treated to views of all sorts of house, flats, offices and all kinds of properties in between.  It was absolutely fabulous passing through some of the smarter parts of London.  There are Mansion House apartments in 1920s design with beautiful windows and architectural features that make them stand out.  Most of these blocks are listed buildings now, which is excellent and will protect the design for years to come.

From the end of the M1 through London itself, we were able to view thousands of houses and shops aling our route.  not only the posher apartments but the dingy old terraces of houses still housing the masses, no refinements and very few attractive ones.  But every couple of miles we would be sat in a traffic jam and able to look out over the surrounding housing – that fantastic variety and so uniquely London!
